WHEN LIFE ECLIPSES YOUR YOUR FUN
April will be a month to think about reducing, reusing, and recycling as Earth Day is April 22. I will be thinking of ways to make my quilting and crafting more sustainable while keeping it enjoyable. But have you heard that on April 8 were expecting a solar eclipse? Where I live in Cleveland, Ohio, we are expecting a total eclipse as its path will stretch from Mexico to northeastern Canada. “This is going to be the most populated eclipse in the US, with 31.5 million people able to just walk outside of their homes and experience this event,” says Kelly Korreck of NASA.*
Apparently, there are three types of solar eclipses (annular, partial and total). It is with the total eclipse that the moon will seem to cover the sun entirely. And this total eclipse will last around 3-4 minutes depending on where you are.
Thinking about this total eclipse makes me think of the times when my life seemed to be eclipsed by one event or another. Like when my lost luggage cast a shadow over a trip to Europe. Or even just when life’s little chores get in the way of my quilting. Certainly, this has happened to you…you’ve got yourself all set up in your quilting or crafting space and then the dryer buzzes and reminds you that the clothes are calling your name. Or you’re sewing along and the phone rings. It’s your friend with whom you haven’t spoken in a month and it’s just simply time to talk. Then there’s kids, if you have them. One of them is crying because the other took her stuffie while the other has got her hand stuck in between the rungs of the chair. Life just happens. And somedays it gets in the way of your fun and sometimes it IS the fun. I guess it’s all in how you look at it.
So, when life’s events eclipse your fun, remember they never last forever. They may cast a total shadow over your life but it is only temporary. And remember, they may actually be part of the fun.
